Coloring Fabric Workshop with Jane Balshaw
The admiration of a beautiful piece of fabric is a long held sentiment; manipulations of color on weave and over-lapping designs that create pattern have always captured our attention. Fabric printing is an art form after all. This class is a basic introduction to some manipulations on the surface of fabric to create your own pieces of art that can be sewn into a quilt, used to make a pillow/handbag/garment or simply frame. Using fabric paint, learn direct-on or take-off methods, wet and dry methods and photo exposed imaging. Embellishment with pencils, crayons and stamping is also learned while understanding the fiber & weave of fabric for best results. Leave with finished fabric and a work book to continue the fun at home.
janeThe workshop starts with exercises to boast your self-confidence to uncover your personal creative expression. Technical information will be imparted then we will paint samples of many different styles – literal, abstract, impressionist – so you can find what suits you best. We will break for a pot luck lunch then return to experiment with color theory and techniques with brushes, brayers, stamps, combs, stencils and sunlight. • Bring a smock/apron AND/OR wear clothes that you would not mind getting paint on. Bring a dish to share for lunch (NOTE: if you have food concerns feel free to bring your own lunch) Workshop to be held at Moose Track Studio in Franconia, NH.

Introduction to Painting with Cold Wax

with Brigid Gallagher Davies
Cold wax paintings are created using standard oil paints, mixed with a prepared Cold Wax Medium. They are applied, onto an Encaustic board or a cut piece of wood. Once the mixture has been applied, it is manipulated on the board using various tools and texture makers on the wet surface. Tools include palette knives, brushes and scrapers- anything from pottery tools to old credit cards. Texture makers include anything from bottle caps to stencils to chains to crumpled paper. Raid your kitchen and junk drawers!!Make sure you don’t want to reuse these items for anything else. You can also add collage do dads to accent your painting. It’s easy, lots of fun, and messy. Supply list to follow. Hope you’ll join me!

One Day Workshop
Saturday, October 14th 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Tuition: $125.00 Materials: TBD

Introduction to Painting with Ceracolors-Water Based Wax Paints With Brigid Gallagher Davies
Ceracolors are a newish medium, a water soluble paint made with wax and pigment. Unlike watercolors, Ceracolors are sturdy and do not require such careful application. They are light, dry quickly, and can be used on 140lb. Watercolor paper, or on an encaustic board or piece of wood. Extra cold wax can be added on already painted areas to build up texture. They are less messy and because they are water soluble are easier to clean up. I love using them and highly recommend giving them a try. Supply list to follow.
One Day Workshop
Sunday, October 15th 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Tuition: $125.00 Materials: TBD
